Tuesday Afternoon Meetings

Tuesday Afternoon Fellowship

Meets 2:15-3:30 on Tuesday Afternoons

"Continuity yet change" has been the theme of our fellowship in 2002. The first noticeable difference is the adoption of a new name. Four brave gentlemen have joined our ranks, thus rendering obsolete the title "Women's Own". This is a most welcome development, bringing membership numbers to over 20. Plus the youthful addition of Jackie Marshall also gives hope that younger people will be provided for in this valuable outreach.

Following our lively Anniversary Afternoon in April, we joined many Girton residents for a memorable and highly successful week of activities for 'Holiday at Home' in June. As President, Margaret King represented our meeting at the Spring Rally at Burwell and at the Advent Carol Service at St. Andrew's BC in November, soloist Laura Staves. Our year concluded in December with a joyful carol service, when we again welcomed the W.I. Singers.

Third World Lunch

We hold the Third World lunch every three months give or take a few weeks.

The aim of the lunch is to encourage those who attend to spend some time thinking of those in Third World countries who are hungry, thirsty, homeless in other words have nothing which we take for granted. Also the many organisations who bring aid both physically and spiritually to these people.

We achieve this by having someone bring information about an organisation whose work is in the Third World.

By asking those who attend the lunch, which is bread, cheese and fruit, to donate what they would normally spend on their Sunday lunch we can then give this donation to the particular organisation we have highlighted at the lunch.

We pray by having this lunch that our fellowship will always be made conscious of those in Third World countries who are in need and the many people and organisations working in these countries trying to meet this need.

Music in the Life of the Church

We encourage Members to take an active part in worship, where they express a wish to do so. In particular, music has an increasingly important part to play in the life of our Church.

We are blessed with a good number of musicians for such a small membership. These include: voice, keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, flute, saxaphone, violin and viola - but not all at the same time!

Sunday morning music style varies according to the preacher and type of service - we normally have keyboard and two other instruments.

Sunday evenings are a more contemplative time, and usually only the keyboard is used.
